pain caves

It’s 29 minutes into a 58-minute drip-sweat workout. You know it‘s going to be a harder 29 minutes to freedom at last. Your breath’s shallow while you dig deep. Deep into your pain cave. It is hard to breathe, yes. You haven’t felt this alive today, also yes.

pain caves like pain itself are extremely personal. it is however not solitary. you and ‘it’ are there for each other. in this marriage. it is impossible to cheat in this. on it.

pain caves are never just physical. even a 58-minute long workout isn’t just physical. if anything, pain caves are less physical than mental. almost always.

it’s learning at its finest. it’s teaching yourself about yourself — the best kind of teaching if there is one. everything else is technically preaching really.

pain caves end. they are finite. at max, it just lasts a lifetime for some. that’s all. 80 years. Pshaw! they are lovelier when they end before one does though.

pain caves make you dislike it and disciplined at the same time. to be able to control the suck and embrace it too. that’s what gets you addicted.

pain caves can save people. those who don’t die of it at least. it is dangerous like that. and I like that.
